Have you ever wondered what those delicious British Royal meals tasted like? If yes, then your dream is about to be fulfilled. And, no, you don’t need to visit the palace to have their amazing food. Darren McGrady served the royal family for 15 years, first as a chef at Buckingham Palace during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and later as a private chef to Princess Diana. The chef recently opened Winston’s British Fish N Chips truck with Timothy Johnson in Vancouver, Washington.
Dive Into a Royal Feast
You can choose what royal feast you’d want to try from the menu, currently offering four different treats: There is A Fish and Chips Supper accompanied by mushy peas, tartar sauce, and his famous “chip shop” curry sauce. Next is a Winston’s Kings Feast Sampler, which is the standard supper with two additional chicken wings and a bowl of fish chowder; There are also King Wings dipped in Sweet Fire London Sauce, and lastly, an eight-ounce bowl of smoked fish chowder, a recipe from the time of Queen Victoria. The fish and chips are served in an elegant go-to box and give off an authentic British fish and chips vibe.
The Royal Culinary Journey
McGrady started his journey at one of the top UK culinary schools and landed his first dream job as a chef at Buckingham Palace. Eventually, he became the head chef, and when Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated, he left the palace to become the Princess’s chef. Afterward, he moved on to the US and finally started his little venture, Winston’s British Fish N Chips. McGrady also hosts a YouTube channel where he shares his recipes and how his grandad inspired him to cook fish and chips. The Vancouver truck is just the first of many McGrady and Johnson have planned. Their second Winston’s British Fish N Chips truck is ready to open this May in Dallas.
